“Who Are They Anyway?”

It’s amazing how we sometimes allow other people to dictate and determine what we do in or with our lives. Do you often find yourself worrying about what others think or say about you or allow other people’s views and opinions of you to influence your decisions and actions?

Who is this “They” am talking about, you might ask? Well, they could be your family, friends, significant others, colleagues or even strangers. Whoever they are, you seem to have unknowingly given them too much power over your life.

And how do you allow them to have rule over you? You fear their judgment, constantly find yourself seeking their approval or validation, try to live up to their expectations of you or measure yourself against their standards.

It is futile spending your life worrying about what others think or say about you because it really doesn’t serve you well and only hinders you from living your life as authentically as possible.

You only have one life to live and are doing so on borrowed time. Life is not a dress rehearsal with re-takes and opportunities to do things over. Choose to live a life that is true to you. Be your own person and embrace your individuality & preferences. Quit being a people pleaser and trying to be like everyone else. You were not born to fit into the cookie cutter mold.

I hate to be the one to break this to you, but for real, people could really care less about your life and aren’t losing sleep over it. Most people are too concerned and consumed with their own lives to give yours much thought and most often only give thought to things that relate to them or have to do with their life.

When was the last time you lost sleep over my life? Case in point!

Regardless of what you do or don’t do, people will always form their own opinions of you and think whatever they choose; you have no control over this. There will be those who think you are awesome; those who think you aren’t all that and those who think you simply suck. Don’t waste your time and energy trying to get everyone on your team; it’s not going to happen. Be #TeamYOU.

Not everyone will support you, applaud you or cheer you on in your journey. Some people won’t understand your story, purpose, dreams or even, you. If people misunderstood and shunned Jesus and Mother Theresa despite their noble callings & deeds and all the goodness they brought into the world, who are we to think that everyone will embrace and understand us?

The more you allow yourself to worry about what others think or say about you, the less of YOU you become. Don’t allow people’s limiting beliefs of you to dissuade you, de-power you or discourage you from being who you. Be confident in yourself and refuse to see yourself the way others view you.

Above all, know that your life is YOUR life and when it’s all said and done, it’s the only thing you can give an account of; therefore…live your life and stop worrying about what others think or say about it.

Very well said Yvonne. I can’t even begin to count the number of times I’ve lost sleep worrying and thinking about other people’s opinion of me. Time to let go and be me. Thanks girl!

No matter what you do or don’t do, people will always form their opinions of you. Stop worrying and start living.
