Let the “Neigh” Sayers Eat Hay!!!

I am sure you have one or two of them in your life. You know who I am talking about? The Naysayers; the people who always seem to discount your dreams, have a habit of downplaying your abilities and talents and more than often tell you what you are and aren’t capable of doing as though they are in charge of your destiny or have a hand in writing YOUR story.

They are great masters at nitpicking, take pride in pointing out others’ weaknesses and shortcomings and unsuccessfully try to predict your future as if they were a fortune teller.

You have to realize that you are the captain on your own ship and have control of the steering wheel no matter how much others might try to make you think otherwise. If you allow the naysayers to continue having a say in your life, you will embrace the insecurities they try to project on you and allow their negative words and thoughts over your life to control and influence with your destiny. Understand and embrace the fact that not everyone will believe in you or applaud you on the journey towards your dreams.

Evaluate your relationships and determine if there are people in your circle that can be defined as dream killers, if there are, limit your interaction with them and don’t allow them to have any influence over you or in your life. Surround yourself instead with people who build you up, believe in you and support your dreams as opposed to those who knowingly enjoy bringing you down, constantly undermine your abilities and belittle your efforts. Mark Twain

A dream killer can be just about anyone and often times the most unlikely person; it could be your friend, a family member, a colleague or even your significant other. Sometimes people will try to dissuade you from pursuing your dreams or goals, because they think it is in your best interest to not take some risks and believe that they are somehow protecting you from inevitable failures or disappointments.

Often times though, dream killers attempt to discourage your pursuits and take a shot at your confidence because they struggle with their own insecurities and feel threatened by the possibility of your success and the fact that you offer some sort of challenge or competition. They therefore feel the need to bring you down a notch so that they can elevate themselves or sabotage your efforts to make any progress.

Be wary of people who attempt to derail you when they notice your progress by either introducing stress into your life, offering unnecessary distractions or trying to sabotage your efforts by taking your attention from what you need to focus on or trying to convince you of the impossibilities and challenges you can expect to encounter in the pursuit of your goals and dreams.

I truly believe that the difference between your dreams and your destiny might just be someone or the people you hang around.

The best thing to do is to stay on track and keep focusing on yourself and the goals you have set for yourself. Give no ear to the ‘neigh” Sayers..
